Back to School? Hoping you have art in School this year!

I know that there were two books written about me last year while I was in the fourth grade. I made a change in my community along with some of my friends. We raised money to fund an after school art program after our school cut ours due to the budget. I hope you all have art class this year, but if you do not, at least you have me to help.

Doll Wardrobe Blog Fashion Design Competition... the reason my posts have not been regular.

I have to apologize for my posts not being nearly every day like they were. I have been a busy doll. Other than helping my mom do Vacation Bible School, we entered a fashion design competition. Fashion design is a type of art as well. I can show you what I looked like in the first outfit.

Perler bead fun

So, here is my idea for ways to make mosaics on a small scale at home. My human brothers love to play with Perler beads. Last week I played with them. You can consider them an art supply of sorts as well as a craft. It is easy and fun. You do need an adult to participate. The iron is hot. and dangerous. You can get hurt, so ASK A PARENT, or other adult. DO NOT do this alone if you are a kid. Sorry for shouting but a long time ago mom was ironing, and my brother knocked the iron over when he was running around her and the hot iron hit his leg and he had a burn line down his leg. Mom yelled about running around while she was ironing his shirt bur he did not listen. I don't want to see anyone get hurt.

Perler beads are like a mosaic, which is a type of art where you use small bits of color to make a picture. I made some picture of dogs, my brother Avery made a rainbow and Ryan made a few things. I will post a photo of what we made. You can learn more about Perler Beads on their website.

Perler beads are placed in a design on a peg board, then when you have your design done, you cover the design with a parchment paper and iron it to melt the beads together. You can also find other crafts that you can make.

I made the three dog designs and my brother made the others.

Using Perler beads is a fun way to express art. Art is everywhere.

Mosaics

I feel like I have been away from this but I was busy with Vacation Bible school, so I took a small hiatus from blogging. Helping teach art was so much fun. We made some very colorful projects. I loved the rainbow that we made with colored tissue paper.  Thinking about all the small pieces made me think of Mosaics. While the craft we did was not exactly a mosaic I was inspired to blog about them because of the small pieces, also because of a project I did with my brothers. Mosaics are made of small pieces, laid out to show a design. Mosaics are a form of art that was invented by the Greeks.  They are very beautiful and often were used in buildings, on columns and ceilings. Some times you can find them in older churches. Some feature a geometric design and others are pictures of people and things. You can learn about the history of Mosaic's here.

In modern day, mosaics can be found on garden stepping stones and many craft supply store sell the parts to make them. Think of some other places you have seen mosaics.

So sorry but more things to draw.

I am so sorry that I have not given you a new post in a while, I have been busy helping my mom pull the crafts together for Vacation Bible School at our church. We had a bunch of stuff to prepare ahead, we do all the cutting because there are many little children and not enough adult hands to cut it all out there. So we spent days cutting the crafts out and clipping them in packets so they are ready to go for Sunday evening. We also made colored art sand for the one project with table salt and food color. Fun times.

I hope in my absence that you have been practicing. You should practice every day.

Here is a link to a website with many tutorials, flowers, angel wings,  animals, people ... you can choose a topic and get drawing. Just keep practicing. You will get better the more that you draw and practice.

I found a good resource for Art definitions, and I thought that I would share it with you.

John Lovett has a great glossary on his website. I realized that I wrote about line but I can not remember if I defined it.

By definition then, not only does a Zentangle display line it shows texture as well.

Cool, two for one.
Oh wait, we have direction and shape going on as well...

We should keep working on those Zentangle designs, don't you think?

I drew a few zentangle designs for you....

I keep promising to sit and actually draw something, then scan it in so I finally did it.

Then I did my name, I wish I had a new calligraphy pen it would have been easier, but I used some sharpie products.
